The Grow On Project

Resources for Infant Educarers, or RIE for short, is a Los Angeles based non-profit that provides a foundation for raising infants and toddlers through Early Head Start programs across the globe. Founded in the 1978, they came to prominence in the early 2000s when their method was adopted by many stars, including Penélope Cruz, Helen Hunt, and Jamie Lee Curtis. After decades using the same material, they needed a fresh look. I was asked to update everything about RIE to better reflect their industry. Working closely with their marketing team, I developed a full system that encompassed everything they needed including a full use set of logos, a brand new tagline, templates, and photography for future use.

The Work

Through competitive research, I quickly realized RIE’s visual approach was dated and needed to be more playful and colorful to reflect their business. I chose to use lowercase letters in the logo and highlight the tittle and period to give the appearance of children playing with a ball. It was important to also have a secondary logo that included the name spelled out since it’s so similar to a certain retail store. After finalizing the look and feel, I locked it down in a set of guidelines that would easily onboard anyone working with branding in the future and provided samples of various executions using existing material.
