The Travel Happy Campaign

ATU is an internationally known franchise of over 100 duty free retail spaces in airports around the world. They came to us to solve the unfair perception that duty free stores only sell alcohol. So we gave them a campaign that highlighted the products they did and still do sell, from perfume and cosmetics to jewelry and accessories. The work quickly became a staple in every ATU airport and continues to represent the ever-growing to this day.

The Work

Taking a graphic approach, we designed layered patterns using iconography of airports and popular products in bright, eye-catching colors. Colors can make or break a treatment like this so every combination was converted to grayscale to test their contrast effects. We wrote witty headlines that would stop travelers in their tracks in every language they were later translated into. The components were all knocked on their axis to give the whole design its winning appeal. As part of the project we built their website from the ground up, incorporating our campaign’s signature elements that have since become recognizable across the globe.
